Meet Your Instructor

As an American Mahjong Instructor, I am passionate about helping others discover the strategy, excitement, and camaraderie that make this timeless game so rewarding. My goal is to provide a supportive, engaging learning experience that builds confidence at every stage of your Mahjong journey.

My instruction is rooted in a comprehensive understanding of National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules and standards. All classes are based on a thorough knowledge of the League's official publication, Mah Jongg Made Easy, along with additional resources that align with NMJL-established rules, protocols, and best practices. I remain current with rule updates and gameplay strategies to ensure every lesson reflects accurate, up-to-date, high-quality instruction.

Drawing on more than 20 years of instructional experience designing and delivering educational classes for healthcare and administrative professionals, I use proven teaching methods and effective communication techniques to create classes that are informative, interactive, and enjoyable. Every lesson is thoughtfully structured to make American Mahjong approachable, regardless of your experience level or learning style. I break down the game's rules, strategy, and decision-making into clear, practical steps that build confidence one lesson at a time.  My focus is on creating an encouraging environment where questions are welcomed, concepts are easy to understand, and every student leaves feeling more knowledgeable, capable, and excited to play.

For the past two years, I have combined my passion for teaching with my love of American Mahjong by leading Mahjong 101, Mahjong 102, and Guided Play sessions. I help beginners build a strong foundation while also coaching experienced players to strengthen their strategy, confidence, and overall gameplay.

Beyond teaching, I am an active American Mahjong player who enjoys weekly games and participating in tournaments. Staying engaged in the Mahjong community continually strengthens my skills, keeps me current with gameplay and etiquette, and enriches every class with real-world experience. I bring firsthand experience in tournament play, along with a thorough understanding of tournament procedures, etiquette, and strategy. This perspective enriches my instruction and equips students with the knowledge and confidence to enjoy both casual games and competitive opportunities.
