Mahjong 101
Mahjong 101 introduces you to the essentials of American Mahjong in a fun, supportive setting. Through guided instruction and hands-on practice, you'll learn the tiles, rules, and basic strategies. Leave with a solid foundation, new acquaintances who may become friends, and an eagerness to continue your Mahjong journey.
** Recommended Next Step: After completing Mahjong 101, we encourage you to continue your learning with Guided Play. These instructor-led practice sessions reinforce the concepts learned in class, answer your questions as they arise, and help build the confidence and experience needed to comfortably transition into Open Play. Most new players benefit from attending several Guided Play sessions before playing independently.
Guided Play
Ready to build confidence and sharpen your Mahjong skills? Our Guided Play Session is the perfect mix of practice, strategy, and support! This relaxed, interactive session is designed for players who know the basics and want hands-on experience in a friendly, encouraging environment.
An instructor will guide gameplay, answer questions, explain strategies, and help players better understand the NMJL card.
** Recommended Next Step: Guided Play is the next step after completing Mahjong 101 – The Basics. Most new players benefit from attending several Guided Play sessions to reinforce what they've learned, build confidence, and develop the skills needed to comfortably join Open Play events.
Mahjong 102
Elevate your Mahjong skills in this strategy-focused class designed for players who know the rules and want to play smarter. Strengthen hand selection, tile efficiency, Charleston decisions, joker use, defensive reading, and endgame tactics through guided analysis and coaching. You'll also learn proper Mahjong table etiquette, including respectful gameplay, game flow, and best practices that create a welcoming experience for everyone. Perfect for social or competitive play.
** Recommended Timing:Mahjong 102 – Strategy & Etiquette is best taken after you've completed Mahjong 101 and attended several Guided Play sessions. Once you're comfortable with the rules and basic game flow, this class will help you refine your decision-making, improve your strategy, and prepare you to become a more confident and successful player at any table.
Open Play
Designed for players who already know how to play American Mahjong (without instruction or guidance). Enjoy fast-paced, engaging games with seating rotations, timed play, & on-site facilitators to keep games running smoothly. Perfect for building confidence, sharpening strategy, & preparing for league/tournament play. Scoring materials included. Limited seating. Registration required. Feel free to bring your own set!
Private Lesson
A 3-hour private session tailored to your pace and skill level. Whether you’re new or building strategy, we’ll focus on what you need most—tile recognition, NMJL card basics, gameplay flow, and strategy. Plenty of hands-on practice, guidance, and time for questions in a relaxed setting designed to build confidence and improve your play.
